FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
A concern has been raised that the ongoing construction project at Dixon High School poses some health risks to DHS students and staff. Dixon Public Schools has in the past and continues to work with Aires Consulting, a Division of Gallagher Bassett Services, Inc., on all matters involving the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) and complies with the 1987 EPA Regulation 40 CFR 763, “Asbestos in Schools Rule” on all projects involving asbestos containing materials (ACM). Aires does all of the District’s project design, ACM sampling, project management for all ACM removal projects and associated air monitoring in accordance with the Illinois Department of Public Health regulations. Most of these ACM removal projects are done when schools are idle when students and staff are not on site and always involve a containment setting preventing the release of ACM fibers. The final air sampling (done aggressively) is analyzed by Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) as per AHERA protocol.
Although school renovation projects can sometimes be noisy, dusty and sometimes cause slight inconveniences we can assure students, parents and staff that safety is first and foremost and will never be compromised. We are assured that any of the current dust or debris being created does not contain any asbestos containing materials.
