"Good morning 2nd graders.  I hope you are all doing well and singing along with my Good Morning song videos.  I will post a new one soon.
Today I want to tell you about a new monthly celebration.
Do you remember what the month of March was called?
.........that's right - Music in our Schools Month.

Well, April is called "Jazz Appreciation Month".  Jazz is a kind of music that started in the United States and became loved all over the world.  Jazz musicians improvise.
Improvise means you make it up on the spot.
What does Improvise mean?
........that's right - you make it up on the spot.

I'd like for you to listen to some Jazz.
Please go to YouTube and find:  Putumayo Kids Presents Jazz
Find the song "Little Lamb Jam"  at 10:22 (on the time bar below the video, slide along until you come to 10 minutes and 22 seconds into the video)
You will know this song "Mary Had a Little Lamb".  After the singer sings, there are 3 instruments improvising.  Can you name one of them?
Find the song "Sing a Song of Sixpence".  This song is at 20:50   This is also a song you may know.
Can you name the instrument that improvises after the singer sings?

In Jazz, when a solo is done give the musician a round of applause!  After you listen to these songs, send me an e-mail - tell me the instruments you heard, and what was cool about Jazz!

Have a great day!    Stay healthy and wash your hands - Ms. W    nwirchnianski@dps170.org
