In an era where crime-solving has become a captivating subject for many, the introduction of a new forensic class at DHS couldn't have come at a better time. Teacher Ryan Deets brought his proposal to the school board last year to implement the course into the curriculum, and it was passed unanimously. This dynamic course is an exhilarating addition to the academic repertoire, offering students a unique opportunity to delve into the world of forensic science. From analyzing evidence to solving mock crime scenes, this class provides a hands-on experience that not only engages young minds but also imparts valuable life skills. Here are a few quotes from around the school that provide insight on how the class came to be and how the students are responding to it.

Steve Hodson, Counselor: "I have known Mr. Deets for a long time. I was his English teacher when he went to Polo High School. When there was an opening in our science department, one of the reasons that we were excited to hire Mr. Deets is because of his Forensics Course that he taught at Byron High School. As we counselors met with students to select their courses for this school year, many of them were excited to sign up for this new course. Over 100 students chosen to take Forensics. We are so glad to be able to have this type of hands-on Science class and hope to continue to offer it for many years to come."

Meghan Huffman, Senior: "I really enjoy the class because Mr. Deets is just an overall great teacher, but also makes the lessons very hands-on and easy to grasp. It's not all just copy and paste notes, but there's lots of visual aspects making the class that much more interesting."

Delaney Bruce, Junior: "I enjoy forensics because it is a hands-on class that allows me to learn about new things while also having fun. The crime scenes that we investigate allow me to use the new curriculum taught and apply it to the investigation. I am glad I took the class because it has taught me many new ideas and is a class, I look forward to going to."

This overall positive reaction is what we strive for in our school district. Beyond the realm of textbooks, this class brings the intricacies of forensic science to life, empowering students with practical skills and knowledge that are invaluable in any field. As they unravel mysteries and analyze evidence, students are not only learning about forensic science, but also honing essential life skills that will serve them well in their academic pursuits and beyond.
