Dixon Families,

The school year is close to starting and our staff is truly looking forward to having our students back in our buildings again.  This letter is to inform our families of two new assessment and instructional tools that will be utilized in grades kindergarten through 10 this year.  These tools are STAR and Freckle.  STAR is an online assessment that is used by schools across the country and by several schools in our region as well.  The assessment takes approximately 20 minutes and will be administered by our teachers.  Our kindergarten through 10th grade students will be taking this assessment in the fall, winter and spring.

We have 3 main goals for using STAR:

 1.  Get a better picture of our students’ academic abilities in math and ELA (English Language Arts).
 2.  Plan instruction that focuses on the needs of individual students.
3.  Monitor student growth.  The link below will take you to a more detailed description of STAR.

The second tool is called Freckle.  This tool provides a student with academic practice in math and ELA standards that are at an individual’s level.  The results from the STAR assessment can be uploaded to Freckle.  As students practice independently, Freckle continuously adapts and provides content that fits the variety of ways that students learn best.  The link below will take you to a more detailed description of Freckle.
