All-American Cheerleaders 2022

DIXON HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS,  Bree Covell and Grace Gates, TO PERFORM IN THE PEARL HARBOR MEMORIAL PARADE IN HONOLULU, HI

Dixon High School is proud to announce that two of its cheerleading members, Grace Gates and Bree Covell,  will represent Varsity Spirit and the Universal Cheer Association, the global leader in cheerleading,  in the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade in Honolulu, Hawaii, from December 4-9, 2022.  Bree and Grace are both seniors and captains on the varsity DHS Cheer team.

Cheerleaders and dancers who are invited to perform in the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade are part of a select group of All-American Cheerleaders identified at Varsity Spirit summer camps across the country. All-Americans are based on superior cheerleading or dance skills as well as leadership skills at camps operated by Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA). Grace and Bree attended the UCA camp offered in Dixon, Il. on July 18, 19 and 20th of 2022, where they were selected as All-American Cheerleaders. Only the top 12% of the cheerleaders and dancers from Varsity Spirit camps earn the chance to participate in a performance of this caliber.

“We are thrilled that these excellent athletes will have the chance to perform and experience our Special Events in Honolulu, HI,” said Bill Seely, President of Varsity Spirit. “We are honored to provide them a one-of-a-kind opportunity, where they will meet and connect with cheerleaders and dancers from across the country, as well as be a part of a meaningful parade experience that represents our nation’s history.”

Grace and Bree will perform with Varsity Spirit All-Americans in an exclusive performance prior to the opening ceremony of the parade, and then be a part of the parade before thousands of fans lining the streets of Waikiki Beach. This trip marks the 81st Anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. The parade theme is "Remembering The Past and Celebrating Our Future." We honor our veterans and their families while recognizing that once bitter enemies can become loyal friends and allies.

Besides being able to perform for true national heroes, athletes will have the opportunity to meet cheerleaders and dancers from across that nation and enjoy a memorable trip to the Pearl Harbor Memorial and the USS Missouri Battleship.

Athlete Bree Covell states: “Being picked as an All-American cheerleader has been an honor. Growing up, I had a family friend who introduced me to cheer and the UCA camps, because she participated in one and ever since then it has been the highlight of my high school cheer career. While at camp I was also chosen as “Top Banana” (top cheerleader for our team), I wouldn’t have been able to do any of this without my amazing coaches who helped me throughout my four years at DHS!”💜

Athlete Grace Gates states: “I am excited to be chosen for the opportunity to perform with many talented cheerleaders from all over the nation.  Our team has worked really hard this year under the direction of our great coaches.   I was also chosen, by UCA staff, to receive the “Leadership Award” during our camp.  Being chosen for the honor to represent DHS and UCA as an All-American is one of the highlights of my high school years, but being able to do this in Hawaii at the Pearl Harbor Memorial event in honor to our Nation’s veterans, makes it that much more meaningful.”
